150 Years of Song
At Lehigh, singing is a foundational tradition. Since 1869, our choirs have served as a home for students who seek to combine vocal excellence with a deep sense of community. Whether we are performing a Renaissance motet in Baker Hall or touring internationally, we approach every score as a living text—an opportunity for both artistic expression and cultural inquiry.
Lehigh University Choral Arts (LUCA) is a diverse collective of students from every corner of the university. Here, engineers, poets, and scientists join voices to create something that none of them could achieve alone.
Our Ensembles
Membership in our choirs is more than a class; it’s an invitation to a world-class performance experience. All ensembles are available for 0 or 1 credit.
- The University Choir: Our flagship 50-voice auditioned mixed ensemble. This group performs a wide range of repertoire and serves as the core of our international touring program.
- The Glee Club: One of the oldest tenor-bass choirs in the nation, maintaining a storied tradition of brotherhood and musical excellence.
- Dolce: Our premier treble choir, dedicated to exploring diverse and challenging repertoire for soprano and alto voices.
- Choral Union: A massive, symphonic choir that brings together students, faculty, and the local community to perform major masterworks with a full orchestra. No audition is required to join Choral Union.
More Than a Performance
While we pride ourselves on professional-level execution in the Zoellner Arts Center, the "Lehigh way" of singing goes deeper:
- Global Citizenship: Our choirs regularly travel the world—from Asia to Europe to South America—using music as a bridge to understand different cultures and histories.
- Scholarly Artistry: In the rehearsal room, we don't just learn the notes. We investigate the "why" behind the music, connecting our performances to the broader Music Academics of the department.
- A Lifelong Community: Many alumni describe Choral Arts as their "home at Lehigh." It is a place where the bonds formed through harmony last long after graduation.
Scholarships & Private Study
We are committed to supporting talented vocalists regardless of their major.
- Choral Arts Scholarships: We offer yearly stipends and free voice lessons to incoming students with high musical and leadership potential.
- Private Voice Lessons: All student choral members are encouraged to study 1-on-1 with our world-class vocal faculty to refine their individual technique.
