Our Musical Home

The Zoellner Arts Center is more than just a premiere performance venue—it is the hub of musical life at Lehigh. While it hosts world-renowned artists throughout the year, our students are the ones who truly bring the building to life. From your first rehearsal to your senior recital, these are the spaces where you will find your sound.

The Centerpiece: Baker Hall

Baker Hall is the crown jewel of the arts center. A world-class venue known for its exceptional acoustics and professional atmosphere, it serves as the primary performance home for our major ensembles and soloists.

  • A Professional Experience: Performing in Baker Hall gives students the rare opportunity to play in a professional-grade acoustic environment.
  • A Working Classroom: Baker Hall isn't just for show; it is used daily as a rehearsal space and classroom, allowing students to learn in a space designed for high-level sound.
  • The Steinway Spirio: We are proud to house a new Steinway Spirio Concert Grand, a state-of-the-art instrument that combines world-class craftsmanship with high-resolution recording and playback technology.
  • The Major Capstone: In a unique opportunity for our department, Music Majors are able to perform their senior capstone recitals on the Baker Hall stage, providing a professional-level spotlight for their culminating work at Lehigh.

The Rehearsal & Recital Hub: Zoellner 145

While Baker Hall is our grand stage, Zoellner 145 is the engine room of the department. This versatile space is where many of our students spend their time honing their craft.

  • Daily Rehearsal Home: This is the primary home for our choral and instrumental ensembles. On any given day, you’ll find the room filled with the energy of a full choir or a symphonic band rehearsal.
  • A Transformed Performance Space: Room 145 is specifically designed to be modular. For chamber music concerts and student recitals, we transform the space—turning our choral risers into audience seating to create an intimate, professional setting for small-scale performances.
  • Focus and Response: The room is acoustically treated to provide the focused environment necessary for refining complex ensemble work.

Practice & Study Spaces

Great performances are built in the hours between rehearsals. We provide the infrastructure you need to stay on top of your game:

  • Practice Rooms: Located within the center, our practice rooms are available for individual study and daily warm-ups.
  • Piano Access: Most of our practice rooms and classrooms are equipped with well-maintained pianos, ensuring that students have the tools they need for practice and composition at all times.
  • Dedicated Classrooms: Our music-specific classrooms are designed for active listening and analysis, located just steps away from our major performance halls.
