Auditions for our Ensembles
I’m interested in participating in an ensemble - do I have to audition?
Most of our ensembles require an audition - please see the information below. We ask that you wait to register for an ensemble until after you audition and are placed in a group.
Audition required: Wind Ensemble, University Choir, Dolce, Glee Club, LU Philharmonic Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra
No audition required: Marching Band, Choral Union, Symphonic Band (spring only)
Chamber Music & Small Jazz Ensembles: Department permission is required to register. Please reach out to the professor of record for your instrument’s ensemble to inquire if you’re interested in learning more.

When and how do I audition?
Auditions for new students are held the weekend before classes start in the fall semester.
Returning students do not have to re-audition. For incoming first-year students, our audition information is shared as part of the Office of First Year Experience’s orientation materials.
If you are interested in joining an ensemble for the first time in the spring semester, please reach out directly to the ensemble director.

What can I expect for auditions?
The auditions are low-pressure. Depending on the group(s) you’re auditioning for (Choral groups, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensembles, Orchestra), you are typically asked to play/sing a piece of your choice, and you may be asked to do a short sight reading. Jazz auditions are broken up over two days - the first day is a general audition, and the second day is for seating and placement.
