Music at Lehigh: Your Stage, Your Community

At Lehigh, music isn't just a department—it’s a heartbeat. Whether you are a future engineer, a budding entrepreneur, or a social scientist, there is a place for you here. You do not need to be a music major or minor to participate in any of our ensembles, take private lessons, or enroll in our classes.

In our classrooms and rehearsal halls, every student stands on equal footing. Whether you are taking a course in Music Theory, History, or Composition, you will learn alongside music majors and non-majors alike, bringing your unique perspective to a shared artistic experience.

Find Your Fit

From the stadium to the stage, we offer dozens of ways to keep playing, singing, and creating.

Join an Ensemble

Our ensembles are the social and artistic hubs of campus. No matter your skill level or genre preference, we have a chair (or a microphone) waiting for you.

Private Lessons

Want to dust off your old instrument or start a brand new one? We offer private instruction with world-class faculty in almost every instrument and voice type. From beginner to advanced, these 1-on-1 sessions are designed to fit into a busy student schedule—and are open to all Lehigh students. Visit our Private Lessons page for more information.

Beginner Group Classes

Never picked up an instrument? Our group classes are the perfect, low-pressure way to start. We offer small-group instruction for Piano, Guitar, and Drums for just $275 per semester. It’s a great way to learn the basics alongside your peers.

Composition & Theory

Curious about how music works or want to write your own? Our academic courses are open to the entire university. Dive into the architecture of music, whether you're looking to write for a full orchestra or just understand your favorite songs better.

Music Production & Recording

Go behind the scenes and master the tools of the modern industry. Our Recording and Audio Production courses teach you the technical precision of signal flow, mixing, and studio technology. Whether you want to produce your own tracks or understand the science of sound, you’ll get hands-on experience with professional-grade gear.

Why Music at Lehigh?

We know your schedule is packed. Here’s why hundreds of students from every corner of campus choose to stay involved:

  • A Creative Release: Music provides a necessary balance to a rigorous academic load. It’s the perfect way to "switch off" the lab brain and engage your creative spirit.
  • Instant Community: Our ensembles provide an instant social circle of peers who share your passion. Many students find their lifelong friends in the rehearsal room.
  • Leadership & Teamwork: Leading a section in the Marching 97 or collaborating in a Jazz Combo builds the exact kind of "soft skills" that top-tier employers are looking for.
  • Professional-Grade Stages: Perform in the stunning Baker Hall at the Zoellner Arts Center—a world-class venue that is available to all Lehigh students.

Not Sure Where to Start?

You don't have to have it all figured out today.

  • Visit Us: Swing by the Music Department office in Zoellner 356.
  • Watch a Rehearsal: Most of our groups welcome "sit-ins" if you want to see the vibe before joining.
  • Ask a Peer: We can connect you with a student in your major who is already active in the department.
